Biography

Jesse Shircliff is a Ph.D. candidate from Craigton, Ohio and a 2019 graduate from the Department of Sociology at Gettysburg College. Jesse's dissertation is a mixed-methods integration of social status embodiment with organizational studies of work. Specifically, he is studying how trans and nonbinary people experience—and strategically navigate—the expression of gender typicality within formal jobs, which has broad implications for studies of workplace agency and health stratification. His advisors are Drs. Guadalupe Marquez-Velarde and Christy Glass, and he is a member of the research group, POP*HI, which studies intersectional health disparities.

Jesse also teaches classes on statistics, social science methods, and work. His writing can be found in a handful of top sociology, geography, and health science journals (Social Problems, JAMA Network Open, Work and Occupations, Geoforum, and Rural Sociology). In his spare time, Jesse likes watercolor, art museums, and downhill skiing.
