Biography

Dr. Weimiao Zhou (Ph.D., University of Kansas) investigates the connections between interpersonal communication and youth’s well-being and health within multifaceted family systems, such as sibling dyads and parent-child triads in intact and blended families. Her current research focuses on how various relational communication processes function to enhance or erode relational well-being (e.g., intimacy, conflict), psychological well-being (e.g., coping, life satisfaction), as well as behavioral health (e.g., substance use, sexual risk) among sibling dyads and parent-child dyads/triads. To achieve this, Dr. Zhou employs advanced quantitative methods to analyze survey and diary data from individual, dyadic, and triadic levels, including intensive longitudinal analysis, multilevel modeling, structural equation modeling, and latent class analysis. Her scholarly work has been published in interdisciplinary journals such as Developmental Psychology, Family Relations, Family Transitions, Personal Relationships, and Journal of Social and Personal Relationships. She teaches CMST 3120 Communication in the Family Contexts and CMST 4700 Health Communication in the Department of Communication Studies and Philosophy at Utah State University.
