The HPI's Newest Graduates

USU’s 136^th Commencement honored the Heravi Peace Institute’s first official class of graduates. 32 students from varying majors received one or more of the institute’s five certificates and are now utilizing those skills in their personal and professional lives.

Peacebuilders in Washington DC

Four Global Peacebuilding certificate students traveled to Washington DC this June to promote the Heravi Peace Institute at the USU "Create Your Aggie Impact" campaign launch. The students shared their experiences with people of all different backgrounds, met with members of the USU Foundation Board, and even did a little sightseeing along the way.

“This event was such an incredible opportunity,” shared HPI student Jade Bartnicki. “To be able to talk with people from all different backgrounds and interests about why I’m passionate about building peace, and how the skills I’ve learned can and will make an impact is so amazing. It’s encouraging to know that people do care about this stuff, and that we as students really can make a difference.”

A Piece of Peace

Last spring, the Heravi Peace Institute hosted a pie social where students from all majors and certificates came to meet fellow HPI students, learn about peace-related courses being offered in the upcoming fall semester, and of course enjoy a “peace” of pie! One of the courses previewed was PI 1010: Intro to Peacebuilding and Transformative Conflict, our first-ever intro course offered through the HPI.

Peacebuilding & Transformative Conflict Club

Students are already practicing, expanding, and advocating the skills they learn through the HPI outside the classroom. Last spring, the Peacebuilding and Transformative Conflict Club had its first meeting. Over 50 students from majors across campus attended and participated in activities designed to build skills around understanding your values, setting healthy boundaries, communicating collaboratively, and other critical peacebuilding and transformative conflict skills.

Old Main, New Plaque

A shiny new plaque was added to the halls of Old Main in July. The plaque commemorates the founding of the Heravi Peace Institute, which took place on October 14, 2022.
