Heravi Peace Institute is thrilled to welcome Professor Sidi Becar Meyara as the newest member of our faculty board! Meyara joins us as an Assistant Professor of Global Communication, bringing a wealth of knowledge, passion, and experience to our community. At the heart of Meyara’s work is a dedication to exploring how immigrant communities navigate their identities and build unity in the face of shared challenges. His research with the Mauritanian immigrant community in Greater Cincinnati has shed light on how individuals can come together to reconcile complex histories and create stronger, more unified futures.

Meyara also dives into important questions around xenophobia and Othering in public discourse, examining how these narratives shape perceptions and perpetuate stereotypes. With a focus on teaching and social justice, he is passionate about creating spaces where difficult but vital conversations can take place.

In the classroom, Meyara brings his expertise to life through courses like Global Communication, Intercultural Communication, and Culture and Public Discourse. His teaching inspires students to critically engage with the world around them and equips them with tools to make meaningful change.

Meyara has hit the ground running in his contributions to HPI by participating in our November 2024 Park City retreat, which focused on shaping our institutional vision, mission and direction. This spring, he will be taking several HPI students on an immersive learning trip to Alabama in order to learn more about the history and rhetoric of the civil rights movement.

We are excited to have Meyara join the Heravi Peace Institute and look forward to the fresh perspectives and ideas he will bring.
