Joshua Hessing, Computer Engineering undergraduate student, joined the software team on the GASPACS cube satellite in the fall of 2020. He created a virtual system that simulates the GASPACS mission environment to enable rapid testing of the GASPACS flight software. Additionally, he increased robustness and tested the GASPACS flight software in preparation for its successful deployment in January of 2022. Upon returning from a two-year, Mandarin-speaking religious mission in spring 2024, Joshua now leads the Flight Software team. He leverages JPL's F-prime programming language to create flight software for the GAS team's next cubesat, GASRATS. Joshua is grateful for the experience, skills, and knowledge he has gained on the GAS team as well as how it fosters creativity and problem-solving. Progressing from a team member to team lead, Joshua strives to elevate communication and training to ensure the success of both new members and the GAS team holistically before his anticipated graduation date in May 2026.
