Biography
Professor Glass is an organizational sociologist whose work focuses on how social identity shapes access to and advancement in elite professions including law, business, finance, and sports.
With Dr. Alison Cook, she has pioneered research on the glass cliff and the impact of representation on corporate practices. This work has been published in top sociology and management journals including Social Problems, Strategic Management Journal, and the Leadership Quarterly.
With Dr. Éva Fodor and others, she has published widely topics related to motherhood, work, and care in highly skilled jobs in the U.S. and Europe. This work has appeared in top journals including Gender & Society, Gender, Work and Organizations, Social Forces, and Work & Occupations.
Her organizational scholarship focuses on workplace bias and discrimination. With Dr. Jesse Shircliff and Bee Hazelwood, she has advanced scholarship on organizational surveillance mechanisms that limit employment for trans and nonbinary workers as well as the strategies gender non-conforming workers rely on to navigate workplace bias. This scholarship has been published in top journals including Work & Occupations and Social Problems.
Glass currently serves the Co-Principal Investigator of the Women in Sports (WINS) Study, a longitudinal project focused on advancing health and wellbeing of elite athletes who play women’s sports. WINS focuses on how elite sports environments shape safety, belonging, inclusion, retention, and career sustainability.
Dr. Glass’ work is regularly featured in outlets beyond academia, including The New York Times, National Public Radio, The Harvard Business Review, The London School of Economics Business Review, Forbes Magazine, PBS, BBC, CNN, The Guardian, Vogue and more.
