Biography
Mufti Nadimul Quamar Ahmed is a Ph.D. candidate in Environmental Sociology. His academic and community engagements are rooted in sustainability, environmental justice, and the lived experiences of marginalized populations, including immigrant communities in the United States and environmentally vulnerable populations in Bangladesh. Mufti’s PhD research examines how climate change and environmental issues shape Utahns’ migration decisions and fertility planning. He has numerous research publications that have appeared in prestigious journals (Google Scholar). He has presented his research at Harvard, Columbia, Johns Hopkins University, and multiple local and national conferences with several fully funded travel supports.

Mufti has received Summer Research (2023), Graduate Research and Creative Opportunity (GRCO), and Mountain West Center grants (2024) along with his NSF-funded PhD project. For his scholarly contributions, Mufti has received several awards, including the USU Achievement of the Year Award (2025), the Graduate Enhancement Award (2025), the USU Student Sustainability Award (2025), the Keller Family First Generation Endowment (2025), and the J Ratcliff Prize (2025). Furthermore, he was awarded the best Graduate Oral Presenter at the college level (2025) and selected as one of the 50 “Influential Aggies 2025” by the USU Statesman.
