Student Projects
Goodwater Elementary School
Goodwater Elementary School is designed as a replacement for the existing Castle Dale Elementary School that the community has outgrown. Serving multiple small towns in the area, this elementary school plays an important role in both education and socialization as the area is sparsely populated. While the school currently enrolls about 150 students a year, Castle Dale has grown steadily in population over the past decade and may see an influx in students because of this. Room for growth played an important factor in the schools’ design. Students in grades kindergarten through sixth can enjoy a gymnasium, covered play court, and classrooms designed with childrens’ needs in mind. Teachers and faculty are offered a faculty lounge, copy center, and front office designed with efficiency, daylight, and acoustics in mind. Designed for client Wendy Jones, an elementary school teacher in northern Utah, this school is designed with research and personal experiences in mind to ensure an effective and safe learning environment for students and a functional and organized workplace for faculty members. The school was fully constructed in Revit, a branding package was developed, and materials and furniture were selected.
Sana Village Cancer Center
Designed with cancer patients and their loved ones, caregivers, and healthcare workers in mind, Sana Village aims to improve cancer treatment and its outcomes by elevating all elements of the cancer treatment process through research-guided design. At 80,680 square feet and five floors, Sana Village provides care to a variety of patients across all stages. The Sana Caddy was designed with infusion patients in mind and offers. Patients can store items at the cancer center with peace of mind knowing that they are safely inside one of the patient lockers that the caddy easily wheels inside of.
Vyrsek House
Vrysek house was born out of a desire to have a more overall commercial-oriented portfolio while still meeting all of the capstone requirements, one of which is a full set of residential new build construction documents. Vrysek House being a short-term rental means that it is designed with profit in mind. The brutalist nature of the structure also makes the documents more commercially relevant as it is made from almost entirely concrete, steel, and rigid insulation. These commercial-leaning elements guided the approach to the design. Aimed at couples seeking a quiet and luxurious getaway, Vrysek House is set in the private cabin community of Ames Lake in Redmond, Washington. Secluded in the forest on a three acre lot, but only a short drive away from Seattle, this is an ideal location for a romantic getaway. A spacious pool and lounge space behind the home add to the amenities already provided in the house. Set back from the main road and sideyards, privacy is aplenty and the views are unobstructed. A full set of construction documents, FF&E package, and ResCheck were done for this project.
Cape May Beach House
Designed to accommodate a large extended family for relaxing vacations in the quiet beach town of Cape May, this house takes on historical precedent set in the area. With over 600 buildings included in its historic district, Cape May is known for its incredible preservation of Victorian and Edwardian architecture. Many of the homes in the area boast a variety of pastel shades across their intricate exteriors full of hand-crafted moulding and finishes. While many of these details are no longer feasible to include in a project because of the loss of craftspeople trained to craft such objects, and because of the increase in materials, as many details as possible were included to stay true to the architectural style and create a beautiful home that is sure to last.
Arowana
Arowana Indonesian Cuisine is a restaurant located in Lehi, Utah within a space that previously housed five small retail spaces. In order to elongate the building's lifespan, the spaces were combined into one area that now makes up Arowana Indonesian Cuisine. A full set of tenant improvement construction documents has been drafted for the project. Branding was also developed and applied to the restaurant. This project is deeply rooted in the culture and traditional design of Indonesia and great care was put into being as culturally sensitive as possible. Cultural and religious norms of Indonesia were considered at all stages of the design to ensure that those who may seek this space as a reminder of home and a space for community feel included and comfortable.
