Hyrum discovered a passion for design at an early age after a fifth-grade project sparked his design interests. This passion led him to Utah State University, where he developed a deep appreciation for both residential and commercial projects, and the way that good design improves the lives of those it touches. Through an internship with Looney & Associates in Dallas last summer, he fell in love with the hospitality side of the industry. After graduation, he hopes to be able to travel and continue finding examples of inspiring, impactful design.

The Avocet Hotel

Italianete Residence

A compilation of historical drawings and photos of different houses that were built in the Italianate style. They feature arched motifs, ornate roof brackets, asymmetrical designs and (usually) a tall tower.

Living on Vista Drive in Greenwich, CT, offers a luxurious lifestyle with stunning waterfront properties, spacious estates, and high-end amenities. One of the oldest and wealthiest towns in the United States, founded in 1640 as a settlement of English colonists. The town is architecturally significant for its historic estates, coastal mansions, and well-preserved examples of classic American styles, many influenced by European traditions.

The Italianate residential style, inspired by 16th-century Italian Renaissance villas, became highly popular in the United States between the 1840s and 1880s. It was favored for its picturesque, romantic appeal and adaptability to both urban and rural settings. Defining features include low-pitched or flat roofs with wide, overhanging eaves supported by decorative brackets, tall, narrow windows (often with arched or curved tops), and ornate cornices. Many homes also featured square towers or cupolas, adding to their elegant and grand appearance. The style gained prominence due to its affordability and ease of construction using wood rather than masonry, making it widely accessible across the country.

Slice Furniture Line

Five pieces of modern furniture, based on forms and shapes created by sliced/cut fruit. A barstool featuring a curved back like an orange, a daybed that looks like a slice of melon, a coffee table like stacked lemon slices, a conversation sofa like a halved mango, and a lounge chair like a banana peel.

As part of a greater population of Indigenous Peoples in the US, the Northwestern Band of Shoshone represent a people who have faced systematic displacement and cultural erasure for hundreds of years. Through this new building, access to quality therapy services and an icon of cultural celebration is founded.

The Avocet Hotel
