He has developed necessary skills needed in the professional world of design, with skills like thinking creatively, being detail-oriented, and strong organizational skills. His time at Utah State has helped shape how he views the professional lens of design and how culture can encourage design ideas and expand worldviews. His dedication to refining his technical skills shows in his quality of work and mindset. He has gained a deep love and appreciation for the design process and understanding its value in the large scope. Jake has an interest in sustainability, craftsmanship, and human-centered design. Some of Jake's aspirations in life are to start his own design/real estate firm. He wants to design equitable and beautiful spaces that help his community and help our planet. Some of Jake's interests outside of design are traveling the world to gain appreciation for culture, reading, having an active lifestyle, and creating genuine connections with those around him. He is excited to grow and is eager to contribute to the field as his career evolves.

I would rather die of passion than boredom.

Seaward

Seaward is a cafe and restaurant in Bar Harbor that’s all about capturing the drama of the ocean and the charm of Maine’s lighthouses. Seaward serves local food but also gives people an experience they’ll remember; somewhere cozy, welcoming, and connected to the coast. The design balances nautical history and lighthouse character with modern comfort, creating a spot that feels just as inviting for locals as it does for tourists.

Ramirez Residence

After losing their first home in the Palisades fire, the Ramirez family is building a new house rooted in resilience, warmth, and a deep connection to nature. Designed with a strong emphasis on safety, the home incorporates durable, fire-resistant materials and thoughtful planning to provide long-term security and peace of mind. The architecture blends Mediterranean Revival influences with a modern California sensibility, combining timeless textures and inviting warmth with a fresh, functional approach to family living. A dedicated office and individualized spaces for each child support both productivity and personal growth, while the overall design fosters comfort, renewal, and a sense of home rebuilt with intention.

Artificial Fragments

Tiny fragments coming together to create something lasting.

This collection is a study of the overlooked and small rituals, fleeting moments, and ordinary details that quietly shape our days. Each tile line distills something familiar into pattern and texture, honoring the beauty found in stillness, repetition, and memory. This project aims to be a commentary on the use of AI and how it’s impacting our lives every day.

Crue de la Seine

The Crue de la Seine apartment draws from the history of Parisian architecture while reworking the interiors to feel more open, functional, and expressive. The original space felt rooted in tradition but limited in how it supported everyday living and hosting, so the design focuses on creating a more connected layout that allows for easier flow and gathering. Classical elements are preserved and paired with a more layered color palette and curated furnishings, bringing in personality without losing the character of the home. The result is a space that balances tradition and creativity, feeling both reflective of its history and adapted to a more modern, social way of living.

Hawthorne Residence

The Hawthorne Residence is inspired by the timeless elegance of French Country architecture, emphasizing tradition, comfort, and a lived-in warmth. The home is designed to feel both refined and inviting, balancing classic detailing with spaces that are approachable and functional. It supports gathering, entertaining, and everyday living, creating a sense of ease while maintaining a strong connection to historic charm.

While rooted in traditional architecture, the residence addresses the challenge of modern livability by balancing symmetry, proportion, and refined detailing with comfort and practicality. The result is a home that feels both elevated and effortlessly livable.

Pulse Collective

Pulse Collective is an LGBTQ+ community center in Salt Lake City designed to foster safety, belonging, and connection. The project reimagines what a support space can be by blending essential services with moments of comfort, creativity, and everyday life. At its core, Pulse Collective offers access to counseling, gender-affirming care, and wellness resources, while also creating an environment where individuals can simply exist without pressure, whether that means gathering with others, working quietly, or finding a moment of rest.

The design prioritizes inclusivity through both program and atmosphere. All-gender restrooms, a small clinic for testing and health education, and a computer lab provide practical, accessible resources, while soft, welcoming gathering spaces encourage community and connection. Art installations and outdoor areas celebrate queer identity and visibility, allowing the space to feel expressive and affirming rather than clinical. Pulse Collective is not just a place for services; it is a living, evolving hub where healing, identity, and community intersect, empowering individuals to feel supported, seen, and at home.
