Abby Rasmussen

Abby Rasmussen is a designer driven by a passion for crafting thoughtful, intentional, human-centered environments. She began her higher education journey at Utah State University in 2022, where she is pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Interior Architecture and Design, complemented by minors in Art and Entrepreneurship. Abby values both higher education and the power of community, and has actively contributed to student growth through her roles as a Peer Mentor for incoming freshmen, a Writing Tutor, and an Undergraduate Teaching Fellow within her program.

Outside of the studio, she finds joy in spending time with friends and family while exploring a range of creative outlets. Following graduation, Abby hopes to pursue a career with an interior design firm that centers dignity in design, allowing her to further develop her expertise while creating meaningful, personal, and impactful spaces.

Student Projects

Located in Birch Creek, Idaho, The Whitcombe Residence is thoughtfully secluded, offering an ideal setting for relaxation and aging in place. Inspired by Victorian homes, the design explores the relationship between fashion and interior environments, examining how stylistic influences translate into spatial decisions. The residence takes a deeper approach to the interplay of pattern and texture, demonstrating that even within complexity, a sense of simplicity and harmony can be achieved.

Located in New Orleans, Louisiana, The Kitchen draws inspiration from the functionality and charm of classic French kitchens. The design carefully considers the demands of large-scale cooking, incorporating ample pantry and refrigeration space alongside carefully selected materials. The Kitchen evokes a sense of warmth, whimsy, and belonging, creating a space where gathering and everyday tasks feel both elevated and personal.

A Lifetime is a Delft tile collection intended to showcase memories from my life. Each tile features an element of nature that represents significant moments and personal stories, preserving them in a delicate and lasting form. As a whole, the collection unfolds as a personal narrative, capturing the tenderness of childhood and the nostalgia woven through moments both big and small.

DERIVED! is a tenant improvement retail store designed to foster creativity and connection. Incorporating both workshop areas and a studio, the space was envisioned as a hub where creative individuals can come together. It was essential for the environment to feel warm and bright, while maintaining a neutral palette allowing the custom products to remain the focal point.

Research was conducted around the question, “What Makes a House a Home?” to better understand how individuals define the moment a space becomes meaningful. Through the exploration of human behavior, color theory, and the emotional connections people form with objects, materials, colors, and furniture, the study reveals how personal experience and sensory elements shape a sense of home.

A wallcovering line originally inspired by dollhouses and their ability to transport people into imaginative, immersive spaces. A Pocketful of Yesterdays expands on this idea by weaving in connections to nostalgic books, film directors, historical figures, artists, and childhood television shows. Altogether the wallcoverings evokes a sense of hope and whimsy, offering a gentle reminder of where we all began.
