Biography

David Wall's research and teaching reflect a broad engagement with representations of race across the fields film and popular visual culture. He has published widely on a range of subjects including film, advertising, and contemporary art. He is the co-editor (with Michael T. Martin) of The Politics and Poetics of Black Film: Nothing but a Man (2015), Race and the Revolutionary Impulse in “The Spook Who Sat By The Door” (2018), and From Street to Screen: Charles Burnett’s “Killer of Sheep” (2020) all published by Indiana University Press. He is co-editor of the book series Studies in the Cinema of the Black Diaspora and book and film reviews editor for Black Camera: An International Film Journal. His most recent book is Exploring Film Through Bad Cinema (Routledge 2025).
