Fulbright Greece has welcomed U.S. Fulbright Scholar Amanda Katz, an assistant professor of history at Utah State University. During her award period in Greece, Katz will teach graduate and undergraduate courses on the histories of science and technology, focusing on the continuities linking the Greco-Roman world with the Byzantine, Ottoman and Islamic empires. In collaboration with colleagues at the University of Crete, she will lead workshops and deliver public lectures on transportation infrastructures in peripheral communities. She will also conduct research at the Institute for Mediterranean Studies, part of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas, examining how terrestrial and maritime transportation systems in the Saronic Islands have shaped local economies and cultural heritage.

The Fulbright Scholar Program is a cornerstone of the foundation’s mission, bringing U.S. scholars from a range of disciplines to Greek universities and public and private institutions to strengthen cultural and educational ties through collaboration and scholarly exchange.

Katz has also been invited by Fulbright Greece to deliver the keynote address at its four-day “Freedom 250 Seminar: Celebrating 250 Years of United States Independence: Historic Ties and Democratic Bonds with Greece,” scheduled for March 30 through April 2 in Athens. She is slated to present the keynote on March 31 and deliver opening remarks on April 1.
