Academic Performance

Students enrolled in any of the History Department’s three MA/MS program are required to maintain a grade point average of 3.0. If the GPA falls below 3.0, the graduate school places the student on academic probation for one semester with the expectation that the GPA will improve and meet the requirement by the end of the following semester.

Students are required to achieve a minimum grade of B- in all departmental courses. Students must re-take any course in which they receive a grade below B-.

The DGS may submit a recommendation to SGS to dismiss a student from the program if:

  • The student receives three Cs or lower in graduate-level coursework.
  • If the student’s GPA falls below a 3.0 for two consecutive semesters.
  • If it becomes impossible for a student to graduate with a 3.0 GPA in courses identified in the Program of Study.

Students have six (6) years to complete a master’s degree. Subsequent to the time limit, the School of Graduate Studies begins to disqualify course work.
