A degree in physics provides valuable research and critical thinking skills which prepare students for a variety of careers. We offer physics majors and graduate students a high quality physics education with small classes in a research oriented environment. The programs are implemented by faculty who are excellent teachers and also maintain active, world-class research programs.
Our small class sizes, ground-breaking research opportunities, and one-on-one interaction with world class professors are just a few reasons to join our program.

Physics in the News

Utah State University undergraduate researcher Trace Taylor is grateful. “Research fellowships, grants, internships and scholarships I’ve received as a USU student have allowed me to explore scientific research from the start of a project to its conclusion,” says Taylor, a physics major with a mathematics minor.

Maria Rodriguez was among six university and industry panelists selected for the Clark Planetarium's Feb. 6 event in Salt Lake City in observance of UNESCO's International Day of Women and Girls in Science 2026. Rodriguez spoke and provided hands-on learning activities about black holes.

A duality is something consisting of two opposing ideas. Think day and night, up and down, and left and right. Utah State University physicists Abhay Katyal and Oscar Varela explore dualities in physics, in which two seemingly different phenomena are described by the same underlying physical principles.
