- A short essay summarizing your reasons for wanting to pursue a career in theatre and your career goals
- Names and contact information for 3 references who can address your creative talent, academic achievement and collaborative skills
Audition Requirements
- 2 contrasting monologues (e.g., 1 comic, 1 serious; 1 classic, 1 contemporary) no more than 90 seconds each – 3 minutes total.
- 2 contrasting 32 bar cuts from musical theatre songs.
Once we’ve received both your USU application referral and your supporting materials, we will review your application and we may reach out to you to schedule an audition/interview.
Please note that, due to the high volume of applications, we cannot interview/audition every applicant. If you are selected for an audition/interview, we will reach out to schedule with you, though it may not be for several weeks after you’ve submitted all of your materials for review. We will also reach out to let you know if your application is declined or the program is full.
Thank you for your patience and your enthusiasm for our program!

Selected department financial aid awards are available as applications are received. This application automatically gives you consideration for departmental financial aid. Some scholarships are not available for alternate semester starts. If departmental financial aid is offered, you will be notified in your acceptance letter. All out of state students should apply for residency for future financial aid consideration and tuition reduction. All other scholarships are administered through Award Spring, a platform utilized by USU.
All students receiving financial aid should apply for residency their first year.
