Alumni Spotlight: Cameron A. Mumford

Cameron A. Mumford '15

I graduated 2015. I am currently the Theatre Arts Director of Colleyville Heritage High School. The school is in Colleyville, Texas. We are 5A school that has a Technical Director. We work together to create high quality theatre both in the acting, singing, and technical work. Our program has grown from over 200 students. We've done musicals such as Mamma Mia!, Something's Afoot, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and plays such as The Mousetrap, Our Town, Still Life with Iris, and even Hamlet. I teach seven different classes every day including Musical Theatre 1-2, Musical Theatre 3-4, Advanced Sophomore, Advanced Freshman, Advanced 3-4 Productions, Theatre Arts 1 and I co-teach Advanced Technical Theatre. 

I do my best at introducing things I taught at Utah State into my curriculum. Richie Call introduced me to Uta Hagen's Respect for Acting and it is the textbook I use teaching my Advanced Sophomore Course on Acting. I use a lot of information I learned from Vanessa Ballem in my Musical Theatre classes. Every show I Direct I think about Bruce Duerden and his Light and sound courses I took from him. With training my Stage Managers I use LuAnn Baker as an example of what organization and compassionate leadership means.  Every time I coach one of my choreographers, or have to make choreography myself, I think about the movement classes of Stephanie R. White. Stephanie has such a craft in her choreography and stage movement and even with the small amount of interaction through Seussical the Musical; she left a lasting impression. 

All of these staff have continually left a lasting impression and I can only hope that they recognize their impression and know that often past students are the worst at showing gratitude to their teachers.
