Meet Grace Colvin!
Grace is a freshman in the Theatre Education program, and she hopes to become a middle school teacher after graduation.
"I started doing theatre when I was seven years old, and it has changed my life in ways I couldn't possibly imagine. It's taught me so much about life- to use my voice to inspire change, to present myself with confidence, to empathize with people from all walks of life- but most importantly, it gave me a place to belong. The sense of community and camaraderie found in a rehearsal room is something so important to me, and I'm excited to create that as a future teacher.
I always knew I wanted to do something with the performing arts when I grew up, but I wasn't sure exactly what. I tried out all kinds of jobs in the theater and fell in love with all of them: performing, directing, stage management, run crew, playwriting, dramaturgy, puppeteering- you name it, I absolutely loved it. But I finally found exactly what I wanted to do during my sophomore year of high school. I got much more involved with community youth theatre, and through that, I got to help so many kids fall in love with theatre the same way I did. This made me realize I wanted to be a teacher, spending the rest of my life helping kids find joy in the arts."
Grace's favorite thing about the USU Department of Theatre Arts is:
"The people surrounding you- both your teachers and your peers- truly care about you, and they care about your success! Every teacher I have had here has been so committed to helping me thrive in their classes. They get to know each of their students' learning styles to best propel them to success. Additionally, the other students in my program and all around the department are just so kind, empathetic, and supportive. Overall, I just feel so supported and loved here."
Fun Fact: "When I'm not working on a show, I'm making crafts! I especially love making keychains on my Cricut and designing laser-cut ornaments."
