Meet Jose Huerta-Borjas!

Jose is a sophomore in the BFA Theatre Design and Technology program, primarily focused in lighting and sound design.

"I wasn't much of an audience member of theater in the beginning, nor did I have the desire to be involved with it. But that all changed. I first participated in theater through the orchestra pit only once and I wanted some more of the action. But my instrument wasn't called for on the next upcoming production. But then I was given the opportunity to run sound for that show instead, so I decided to try it out. I had no idea how much this first experience, and a little help from my time in the orchestra pit, would open up my mind on what I thought theater was. 

I never knew how much there was to theater that made it so magical! I never knew how important lights and sound were in theater. They are just as important as all the other things that we see on stage and what happens behind the scenes. I got to meet a lot of amazing people and made new friends as I continued on with taking the job. As my time in high school was coming to a close, I decided that this is what I wanted to do."

Jose's favorite thing about the USU Department of Theatre Arts is:
"That you get to meet all sorts of people who are in different areas of studies in the theater. You can meet an actor, a stage manager, a scenic designer, a costume designer, a lighting designer, a sound designer, or anything in between. You can gain a perspective on what they do in their area of study and learn how they get through with their job."

After graduation, Jose would like to continue professionally with light and sound design, and to also teach the next generation of designers.

Fun Fact: "I play the trombone and I'm part of three USU band ensembles: The Aggie Marching Band, the Symphonic Band, and the Aggie Pep Band. You can find me playing at football games, basketball games, and symphonic band concerts."
