Student Spotlight: Elli Remund

Like many students in Utah State University’s Second Language Teaching program, Elli Remund appreciates the flexibility and convenience the program offers. As someone already teaching in the field, the online format has made it even easier to continue her education while working professionally.
“The online format has allowed me to take a job that popped up away from Logan—all the way in Colorado—and still continue with my degree!” Elli said.
Now a year and a half into the program, Elli has developed a deep appreciation for the behind-the-scenes research and theory that inform effective second language education. She also values the mentorship she’s received from her professors throughout her studies.
“Dr. Sarah O’Neill has been a fantastic professor and mentor in this program,” Elli said. “Her classes are engaging and really tie into real-world experiences, which has been incredibly helpful as I work in my own classroom.”
One of Elli’s favorite experiences in the program came during her first semester, when she helped plan the USU World Languages and Communities Fair. The event brought together community members and featured activities related to nearly every world language program at USU, including cultural foods, crafts, and submission opportunities for middle and high school students.
“This degree is directly related to my current profession and will continue to provide me with the tools I need to improve instruction, student retention, and best practices in my classroom,” Elli said. “Additionally, this degree opens other doors for me that would otherwise be impossible to achieve.”
