Creating a Plan

How often should I meet with my advisor?
At least once a semester, meet with your College of Arts and Sciences advisor to discuss a plan of study that includes specific courses, remaining requirements to graduate, getting connected with resources, and so much more!

What is Degree Works and how does it work?
Degree Works is USU's degree-audit tool. In Degree Works, you and your advisor can create a semester-by-semester plan and track your progress toward earning a degree. Take ownership of your academic plan by learning how to use Degree Works and all of its features.

Why isn't registration working?
Start by checking USU's common registration problems page. It has instructions on how to solve most of the registration obstacles that students encounter.

How do I resolve holds on my account?
You can view if you have any holds and learn how to remove them using this link to the holds page on the Registrar's website.

Can I update my location as a statewide student?
Yes! There is a form through Service Now linked here. Please enter the ZIP code where you reside or ZIP code of the USU campus closest to where you reside during the semester.

Placement Tests & Academic Support

Can I get credit from language placement tests?
Do you speak a second language? Would you like to earn credit for a second language and test out of lower-level language courses? The Department of World Languages and Cultures offers testing options to give you credit for what you already know. Check out their webpage to schedule an appointment.

How do I figure out which math credits I need to graduate?
You will likely need to take the ALEKS Exam. This will help define your current math skills and help you determine the remaining math credits needed to earn your degree.

Where can I look for academic support?
USU provides a lot of resources for students looking for help achieving their academic goals. From information for first generation students to conflict resolution with your roommates, you can find links on the support homepage.

There are also some additional support resources located deeper in the site for accessibility solutions, including finding tutors or accessing disability support.

Where can I find financial assistance?
There are a myriad of scholarships and funds throughout the university to help students complete their degree. The best place to start is with USU's student financial support page. They provide easy-to-follow instructions to set you up for success.

There are also some funds through College of Arts and Sciences that provide support to students in financial need including the Make It or Break It Fund and the Experiential Learning Fund.

How do I decide what to study?
It can be overwhelming to decide which classes you want to take when you are not sure where you want to take your studies or your career. One place you can start is with the Career Design Center. This service is provided to USU students and alumni trying to make purposeful decisions and also provides connections for experiences that can lead to clarity and create a path to a meaningful career.
