Biography

Emily Pifer joined the English department as a lecturer in 2025. She teaches across creative and academic writing, and her courses often engage digital and multimodal forms. As a teacher, she is most focused on working with her students to create vigorous and compassionate learning communities where each student can harness and sharpen their unique voices, skills, and interests. Her dissertation, defended in 2024, analyzes the ways stories about rural communities, cultures, and spaces are reproduced, repurposed, and revised across popular culture. Her memoir, The Running Body, was published by Autumn House Press in 2022. She has received teaching awards from the University of Wyoming and Syracuse.
