ENGL 5300 Students Present at USU’s Fall Research Symposium

On December 12, 2024 members of Christine Cooper-Rompato’s ENGL 5300 class, which focused on special collections and archives, presented the fruits of their research at the USU Fall Research Symposium. During the semester students researched several unique collections in the USU Merrill-Cazier Library Special Collections and Archives and created proposals for future research projects.  

Students then teamed up to design posters introducing others to the archival collections and showcasing their proposals. The posters will be displayed in the basement of the library outside Special Collections next semester. Posters and presenters are listed below: 

Megan Boyce, Amelia Jamison, Eliza Lewis, Elizabeth Leishman, Noelani Hadfield, and Kaitlin Hanks presented “Research in the Archives: May Swenson” 

Brinn Nielson, Suzanne Lundgren, Kaylee Jo Stocks, Meghan Wiese, and Ella Murphy presented “Research in the Archives: Cowboy Poetry”  

Cheryl Butler, Erin Fuller, Brook Haight, Madison Kolstad, and Sadie Olsen presented “Research in the Archives: The Outdoor Recreation Archive”  

Ryn Robinson-Eichelberger, Eden Marroquín, Eva Meyer, Tucker Miller, and Aubrey Thompson presented “Research in the Archives: Utah Board Games”  

"I enjoyed being able to work with archive materials hands-on,” says Noelani. “Not only did this allow us intimate access to some of our research subjects in ways we might not have thought of, but it really helped me to understand the purpose of the archives and how they contain information and resources that might otherwise be hard to store or find online."
