Rylee Dangerfield Named English Literature Student of the Year

The English Department named Rylee Dangerfield the English Literature Student of the Year for 2023-2024. The English Literature Committee said, “Rylee impressed the Literature faculty with her perceptive and original scholarship in her English classes at USU and during her study abroad in England, and she distinguished herself as a tutor for the USU Writing Center and Aggies Elevated.”

Rylee decided to go into English Literature because she has always loved to read. She reflects, “English literature is a field of study where we really dive into the humanities and utilize what we learn to contribute to and better the world. I have a passion for humanity, and reading literature is one of the best ways I have found to connect to it.”

She plans to further her education in graduate school because she enjoyed her time as an undergraduate literature student and believes her degree will help her in many areas of her life. She commented, “I work in a mental health and wellness center for teenagers right now, and when I talk to students who are struggling, I remember what I have learned about humanity from studying literature. I have learned how to empathize with people and communicate with people from my degree and that is something that I will value throughout my entire life.”
