USU Representatives Attent the Sigma Tau Delta Fall Board Meeting

Michaelann Nelson, associate professor of English, and senior English major, Zach Brady, attended the Sigma Tau Delta fall board meeting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, September 18-22, 2024. Sigma Tau Delta, an International English Honor Society, supports and promotes undergraduate research in literature and creative writing. Michaelann was elected to the Board of Directors in April for a four-year term as the Far West Regent, representing students and faculty from chapters in seven Western states. Zach was selected as the Student Representative for the Far West region, representing the students of seven Western states.

At the fall board meeting, they participated in meetings to plan the annual spring convention, discuss service projects that the organization could undertake, and work with other regional representatives to discuss how to strengthen the organization and better serve members. Of this experience, Zach says, "I felt honored to meet with Sigma Tau Delta leaders from throughout the nation. It was cool to see how common goals have brought us together, even though every region has unique needs and challenges."

Sigma Tau Delta has 770 chapters in colleges and universities throughout the nation, with over 7,500 members inducted annually. Michaelann says: “It is an honor to have two USU representatives serving this organization. USU has such a strong record of supporting undergraduate research, and this is a valuable opportunity to support and promote undergraduate research in English at the national level.”
