English Department undergraduate student Woodrow Walters recently published a short story in the October 2025 issue of Gramercy Review, an online literary magazine based in New York City. His piece, “It’s Not Time to Make a Change,” was originally crafted in Professor Charles Waugh’s fiction course last year.

The piece follows a couple who have been together for five years when one of them receives a terminal cancer diagnosis, covering themes of anticipatory grief and the difference in expressions of love. Woodrow comments, “I was going through a very powerful loss at the time and used my pain to inspire the piece. The process was cathartic, and I am quite proud of the product. It stands as a testament to my lost loved one and immortalizes them in the written word.”
