Dorcas Anabire, technical communication and rhetoric Ph.D. student, was recognized at the Robins Awards on April 7, 2025, as the Graduate Student Teacher of the Year. Her time as a Graduate Instructor in the English Department has shown her dedication to helping students develop skills for their future careers, collaborating with community partners and nonprofit organizations, and helping her students connect the material they’re learning to real-world conversations and issues.

“Being recognized with the Robins Award means so much to me. Teaching and mentorship are fundamental to me, so this award validates that the labor, creativity, and care I bring into our classrooms matter,” Dorcas reflects.

For Dorcas, receiving this award highlights the support she has received from mentors, colleagues, and her students. “I got this award because of the many amazing students I have had the honor to teach over the past years, and I dedicate this award to all my students, past, present, and future,” she comments. “I get to learn from my students every day, and they inspire me every minute and teach me how to be a better teacher and person. With every course I have been lucky enough to teach, those students have supported me in finding ways to grow, reflect, and reimagine what learning looks like.”

Dorcas left some advice for future Graduate Instructors: “Having the capacity for kindness for yourself and for others enables you to lean into the learning process. Some of the best learning happens when you create the space for mistakes, reflection, and messy work.”

Congratulations, Dorcas, on this incredible achievement!
