ENGL 3170: Legal Writing

ENGL 3170: Legal Writing, a 3-credit course, will be offered in Fall 2026 on USU’s Logan campus. The course will be taught by Senior Lecturer Cree Taylor and will give students the opportunity to read and engage with legal documents related to issues they care about.

“Any student who wants to learn more about how to interact with legal documents, write effectively about legal issues they are passionate about, and communicate more effectively with their communities about legal issues should take this course. It is designed for a variety of students across a variety of interest areas,” Cree says.

Students will practice reading deeply and engaging in conversations happening around legal issues of their choice. They will also practice writing to inform, persuade, and advocate for solutions.

“This will be a course that centers student voices and interests. The goal of the course is to help students feel confident in their ability to research, analyze, interpret, and write about legal documents in meaningful ways,” Cree comments.

As more students take the course, Cree plans to offer it in more formats to make it more accessible for Logan campus and Statewide students.
