MAA Distinguished Teaching Award
Dr. Andreas Malmendier has received the Distinguished Teaching Award for the Intermountain Section! Each section of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) awards a Distinguished Teaching Award to recognize faculty members who have made exceptional contributions to the teaching of undergraduate mathematics. Each MAA regional section selects recipients based on demonstrated excellence in the classroom and significant impact on mathematics education at their institution and within the broader mathematical community. It is one of the MAA’s most prominent honors for undergraduate mathematics teaching. We are so proud of Dr. Malmendier - congrats!

Putnam Exam Result
Our department did fantastic this year at the Putnam Exam! In past years, we have had 8-10 people on our team but this year we had a team size of just 5 people. However, they performed well with amazing results. As a team, they ranked 65th out of 487 teams. We are so proud of them!

Math 3010 Fraction Art
Our MATH 3010 (Algebra for Secondary Teachers) have been having fun creating fantastic fraction art with beads, Minecraft, snap crackle pop units of measure and so much more!

Maha Moussa, one of our PhD Statistics students, has won the National ENVR Student Paper Competition!
The ENVR Student Paper Competition, sponsored annually by the American Statistical Association's Section on Statistics and the Environment (ASA ENVR), recognizes outstanding student-led research that uses statistics to address pressing environmental challenges.

Interdisciplinary Team Awarded NSF Grant to Investigate Mathematics Teacher Retention in Utah High Schools
Willa van Dijk and Kaitlin Bundock, professors in the Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling in the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services, and Carrie Bala, professor in the Mathematics and Statistics Department in the College of Arts and Sciences, have been awarded a grant from the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program within the National Science Foundation (NSF).

Congratulations to the USU Math Club on its performances in the Putnam and Intermountain Mathematics Contests! USU ranked in the top 30% in the Putnam Contest, and USU students placed 6th and 10th out of 55 participants in the Intermountain Mathematics Contest.
