Biography

Sergio Frias is a classical guitarist, performer, and educator with extensive experience in higher education and an international performance career. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Guitar and a Master’s degree in Mexican Concert Music from the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico, as well as a second Master’s degree in Guitar Performance from Utah State University.

 

At the National Conservatory of Music, Frias served as Deputy Academic Director, Head of the Guitar Department, and Director of the International Classical Guitar Festival. At Utah State University, he has taught in the guitar department and coordinated the Classical Guitar Weekend, featuring masterclasses, competitions, and concerts.

 

As a soloist and chamber musician, Frias has performed throughout the United States, Mexico, Latin America, and Europe. His discography includes Cachumbambé, a chamber music album for guitar and flute. His artistic work combines refined technique with expressive depth, emphasizing clarity, tone color, and musical storytelling. As an educator, his students have earned prizes at national and international competitions.
