Biography
Constance Jensen holds masters degrees from the University of Utah in Vocal Performance and from California State University San Bernardino in Voice and Choral Conducting. Both masters degrees featured an emphasis on the works of women composers with graduate voice recitals consisting of works about women or by women composers. Her thesis centered on Puccini’s Suor Angelica and Twelve Poems of Emily Dickinson by Aaron Copland with her final graduate recital featuring both works.
Constance was an instructor at Utah Valley University for 22 years where she taught Voice and Group Voice, conducted the UVU Concert Choir for eleven years, and was a co-teacher of Opera Workshop for several years. She was also faculty advisor and musical director for the a cappella group VoiceLine, and SoulScape, a vocal ensemble for commercial music majors. With a love of both classical and jazz, Constance regularly sings jazz at The Shops at Riverwoods and other venues such as the City of Orem Arts in the Park Series.
Recent roles include Dinah in Trouble in Tahiti and Magda Sorel in The Consul with the Utah/Idaho Performing Arts Company. She performed an Alumni Solo Artist Recital at Cal State San Bernardino and has been a featured vocal soloist with UVU’s jazz ensemble, wind ensemble and the Wasatch Chorale.
Recent classical performances include solo recitals in the Tabernacle Concert Series in Logan, Utah. She has been musical director for musicals, including All Shook Up! at the SCERA Center for the Arts in Orem, Utah.
Honors include the Adjunct Faculty in Excellence Teaching Award at UVU for 2021 and a Distinguished Service Award for her work with VoiceLine, an a cappella group she co-founded. During her tenure with VoiceLine, they recorded and released their first album, hosted and performed at the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, and traveled to Hollywood to compete on America’s Got Talent.
Constance is a choral and vocal clinician, adjudicating solo/ensemble festivals, choral festivals and masterclasses.
An active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, Constance is currently serving as president of the Central Utah Chapter of NATS and has also presented workshops on the chapter and district levels.
