Biography

Patrick Overturf is a percussionist, jazz vibraphonist, and educator. He currently serves as the Temporary Assistant Professor of Percussion at Utah State University in Logan, UT. Patrick’s duties at Utah State include teaching applied lessons, percussion techniques, and directing the percussion ensemble. Prior to teaching at Utah State, he was a Teaching Fellow at the University of North Texas, where he is pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Percussion Performance.

Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Patrick is an active performer across jazz, orchestral, and contemporary chamber settings. As a jazz vibraphonist, he leads his own quartet, performing original music as well as tunes by Steve Swallow and Bobby Hutcherson. In 2024, he was a runner-up and the only American finalist in the PAS Italy Jazz Vibraphone Competition. Beyond jazz, he has appeared as a percussionist with the Sounds Modern new music series, the Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra, the Sherman Symphony, and the McKinney Philharmonic.

Patrick has taught extensively throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, including in Lewisville ISD, Highland Park ISD, Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, Frisco ISD, Richardson ISD, and Melissa ISD. He has presented clinics on jazz vibraphone and improvisation at Adams State University, the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, and the University of North Alabama.

He holds a Master of Music in Percussion Performance from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University and a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from Capital University. Patrick is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Pi Kappa Lambda, the Percussive Arts Society, and the Jazz Education Network. Patrick proudly endorses Innovative Percussion sticks and mallets.

When not performing or teaching, Patrick enjoys spending time with his wife, Carole, and their pets, Winnie and Oscar. Patrick is also an avid fan of Chicago sports.
