Biography
Austin Weyand is a passionate musician, performer, composer, arranger, and educator. As a guitarist, his career spans classical, jazz, bluegrass, Celtic, pop/rock, and Spanish flamenco traditions.
He has performed classical guitar concertos with orchestras; jazz with combos and big bands; and bluegrass and Celtic music with various ensembles, including a tour through France and Spain. He has also performed with a pop/rock band for corporate events throughout the Intermountain West, appeared in an eight-week run of the U.S. premiere of Zorro the Musical, and collaborated with Nashville award-winning songwriters Monty Powell and Anna Wilson as a member of “Troubadour 77.” He was featured on their album Selma Avenue and has performed at the BottleRock Festival in Napa Valley, California.
A state fingerstyle champion in Utah and a three-time champion in Wyoming, he has released two solo albums, Too Much Information and They Call Me Dad, featuring his original compositions and arrangements.
Austin holds a master’s degree in guitar from Northern Illinois University, where he studied with classical, jazz, and world music recording artist Fareed Haque. He served as a graduate assistant for two years, teaching advanced guitar classes, music theory, and coaching instrumental ensembles. He earned a Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance from Utah State University, studying with Michael Christiansen, and received numerous honors, including the Outstanding Guitarist Award and being a two-time winner of the USU Concerto Competition. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in music therapy from USU and completed an intensive six-month internship at a Cleveland, Ohio-area hospital. As an educator, he maintains an active teaching career, working with beginning through advanced students in community programs, public schools, camps, online settings, and universities.
