Audition Information
Thanks for your interest in the Choral program at Utah State University. The USU Music Department features 4 fantastic choral ensembles that provide a variety of opportunities for all of our students:
- Chamber Singers (small, recording and touring ensemble, meets daily 1:30-2:20 p.m.)
- University Chorale (large SATB ensemble, meets MWF 12:30-1:20 p.m.)-
- Treble Choir (meets MWF 2:30-3:20)
- American Festival Chorus (large community chorus with limited openings for USU students, meets W 7:00-9:30 p.m.)
We will be holding live and video recorded auditions this year on the first two days of school (August 28 and 29). You can audition in person in Dr. Evans' office (FAC 215) or you may submit a video audition. A sign-up list will be posted outside of Dr. Evans' office on Wednesday, Aug. 23. Please sign up for a time when you arrive on campus for the Fall semester. For the audition, you will simply sing live for me (or record yourself on your phone) something acappella - an art song, a folk song, a hymn, or something that shows your voice - or send me a link to a website like YouTube, etc. that features an existing recording of your singing - a musical, solo recital, anything that you've done recently - and then text it to Dr. Evans at (435) 881-2721 or email it to cory.evans@usu.edu. I will review all submitted auditions and make choir assignments based on the audition results and which ensemble your voice will best fit into, then I will post them on the board outside of my office on Tuesday night of classes and email the result list to those who have auditioned. Regular choir rehearsals will begin on Wednesday, Aug. 30. You will be responsible for registering for your assigned choir at that time. If you need to register for a choir ensemble before auditions (to get the proper amount of credits, etc.) then register for MUSC 4600 (University Chorale). Your audition will determine if you remain in that ensemble or if you need to register for a different ensemble. Audition info will be posted outside of Dr. Evans' office (FAC 215) the week before school begins.
It will be a fun semester with lots of opportunities to do some unique and rewarding projects. We look forward to working with you!
Dr. Evans and Dr. Jessop
