Biography
Julie Stevens, LCSW, is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Social Work Department within the College of Arts and Sciences at Utah State University. As an alumna of USU's Bachelor of Social Work program, beginning her studies through the Statewide system, she understands the transformative power of place-based education. She earned her Master of Social Work from the University of Utah in 2017 and has been teaching at USU's Statewide Southwest Campuses in Nephi and Ephraim, Utah, since 2022. In 2025, Stevens was honored with the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHaSS) Teacher of the Year Award in recognition of her tireless commitment to students, innovative teaching methods, and ability to connect theory to real-world social work practice.
Julie is committed to strengthening place-based social work education, ensuring that students can remain embedded in their communities while pursuing academic and professional goals. By fostering local networks and promoting a deep understanding of regional needs, she prepares future social workers to serve effectively within their own communities. Her work extends beyond the classroom to address systemic challenges in social work education, particularly in supporting initiatives that promote equity and inclusion. She has collaborated on targeted programs to assist Indigenous students in preparing for licensing exams, removing barriers to professional advancement.
A passionate educator, Julie integrates academic rigor with real-world application, creating an engaging learning environment that equips students to be compassionate leaders and effective practitioners. She believes that community-centered education not only strengthens the profession but also empowers students to drive meaningful change in the places they call home.
