Social Work Student Association (SWSA)

Every fall and spring semester, the Social Work Student Association (SWSA) welcomes new members to be a part of the club.

Membership

Students are welcome to participate in the social work-related activities which are run by the SWSA. There is no cost for the SWSA membership. Membership will include BSW and MSW students in Logan and throughout the statewide campuses. Although the majority of club members are social work students, this is not a requirement and we welcome anyone interested in working on valuable projects within the community.

Activities

All activities will center on the 3 areas outlined in the purpose statement for the SWSA- professional development, unity among students, and promote service/advocacy activities within our respective communities. Ideas from programs will originate from the council with feedback from social work students or at the general student meeting once a semester.

Students may choose to be a part of the publicity, service, information sessions, or social committees associated with SWSA. These opportunities serve as a great way to get more involved in the Social Work Program and the helping profession. SWSA also provides leadership opportunities for students by allowing students to become representatives for their class or serve on committees. A president and other supporting leadership roles are selected based on experience at the beginning of each academic year.

Semester Meetings

SWSA will hold at least one all student open forum each semester for all members. These meetings will be open to student consituents and made known in advance to council officers, SWSA members and student constituents, unless otherwise noted. The agenda will include: topics for activities, areas of need for professional development, and community advocacy opportunities.
