Biography
Terry Peak is Professor and former Director of the Social Work program at USU (2003-2022) and was instrumental in establishing our MSW program. Peak has a current H-index of 17 and published more than 30 articles in refereed journals, presented research findings at more than 40 national and one international conference on her work examining effective components of same-sex marriage, men’s health, nursing home quality, family caregiving, mental health courts, service needs for older adults and more recently, inclusive services for LGBTQIA+ older adults. Peak chaired several Intermountain Mental Health Court Conferences on the Logan campus and in Park City. At the second conference Peak and colleague Dr. Shannon Hughes gave a paper describing ethical issues in mental health courts and co-edited a special issue of The American Behavioral Scientist on this topic. With colleague Dr. Julie Gast, Peak examined men’s health issues; they published articles on men’s health in the American Journal of Men’s Health (one of which is cited on and linked to the DHHS Office of Minority Health website), Journal of Gay & Lesbian Studies, Journal of Health Psychology, The American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine, plus a book chapter “Masculinity and Health: A comparison between the gendered attitudes, beliefs and behaviors of Latino and Caucasian men,” in Aston, J. and Vasquez, E., editors, 2013, Masculinity and Femininity: Stereotypes/Myths, Psychology and Role of Culture. Peak has been a session chair and abstract reviewer for professional meetings and manuscript reviewer for Columbia University Press and various other academic presses and journals.
