i-system logo

Get certified to teach the Resilient Mind Skills to children and help them understand their minds and bodies, communicate what they’re experiencing, and develop healthy skills for navigating life’s challenges. Our children are our greatest asset and our future leaders. They deserve the best we can offer them.

There can be no keener revelation of a society's soul than the way in which it treats its children.

Nelson Mandela

Children need more than academic knowledge to thrive in today's world. They need to understand what is happening in their minds and bodies, have language to communicate their emotions and experiences, and know how to respond when life doesn't go as planned.

Resilient Mind Skills certification prepares educators and mental health professionals who work with children to teach practical skills for self-awareness, healthy coping, and self-regulation.

Whether you're a K–12 educator or a mental health clinician, this fully online, asynchronous course will help you learn the skills for yourself and prepare you to share them with the children in your sphere of influence.

In this course you’ll learn it, practice it, then teach it.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants become Certified Resilient Mind Skills for Children Instructors.

Build important skills for life

Resilient Mind Skills helps adults and children recognize what is happening internally and develop healthier ways to respond to life's everyday challenges.

Get upstream with prevention in your community

Resilience isn't something we should wait to teach until a child is struggling. Our goal is not simply to help children get through difficult moments. We want to give them skills that can help them thrive today and throughout life.

Course Overview

Learn it yourself before you teach it. Resilient Mind Skills is more than training in how to deliver a curriculum. You will experience and practice the skills yourself before learning to teach them to children.

Participants begin by learning the principles and practices of Mind Body Bridging, with opportunities to apply the skills in their own lives, practice throughout the course, reflect on their experiences, and assess their progress.

From there, participants learn how to translate these concepts into developmentally appropriate experiences for children.

Course topics include:

  • Mind Body Bridging principles and practices
  • Helpful and unhelpful states of mind
  • Connections among thoughts, emotions, biology, and behavior
  • Practical coping and self-regulation strategies
  • Trauma-informed teaching practices
  • Child development and developmental milestones
  • Strategies for scaffolding Resilient Mind Skills across ages and developmental levels
  • Practice applying and teaching the Resilient Mind Skills curriculum

There's an added benefit to this approach: when we learn how to help children navigate life in healthier ways, we often strengthen those same skills in ourselves.

Through the curriculum, children learn to:

  • Identify helpful and unhelpful states of mind
  • Develop a shared vocabulary for communicating their internal experiences
  • Understand connections between the mind, body, emotions, and behavior
  • Practice healthy coping and self-regulation strategies
  • Navigate disappointment, setbacks, and unmet expectations
  • Respond more effectively when things don't go their way
  • Develop skills that help them become regulated and ready to learn

The curriculum is designed primarily for students in grades 3–12, with principles and activities that can be adapted for other K–12 settings.
