About the Survey

Utah College Sexual Behavior Survey

The Utah College Sexual Behavior Study began in late 2020 and intended to assess retrospective sexual behaviors of Utah youth. The first survey was administered in the Fall of 2021. Our team created and piloted the survey with the aim of developing a valid, reliable, and inclusive sexual behavior survey. The survey was administered to Utah State University students between the ages of 18-21 that attended high school in Utah.

2021 Initial Results

Following the dissemination and analysis of the 2021 survey, some suggestions were made to improve the survey for the second year of the study. In response, several questions about community and family sex education were added, while other items, such as a number of risk-taking behavior questions were reduced. The 2022 Utah College Sexual Behavior Survey, which had a heavier emphasis on sex education experiences of participants, was disseminated to young adults between the ages of 18-21 who attended high school in Utah at four higher education institutions in Utah.

Future studies are planned to examine the sex education needs and experiences of Utahns across the lifespan.
