Luiz Roberto Farias

Biography

Luiz Roberto Farias is a Brazilian scholar, musician, and educator who recently earned his Ph.D. in Romance Languages from the University of Georgia. Originally from Pernambuco, Brazil, he specializes in Brazilian cinema and literature, with a focus on identity and cultural expression. Luiz also holds an M.A. in Theory of Literature from the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco and a Licenciatura in Letras Portuguese-English from the Universidade Católica de Pernambuco.

A musician and scholar, he studied classical guitar and double bass at the Conservatório Pernambucano de Musica and performs both Brazilian and American music. Luiz brings real-world cultural experience to the classroom, from writing about newspaper news to contemporary Lusophone authors and music to encouraging students to participate in musical presentations in Portuguese.
