Artist's Statement

My piece includes three different paintings on three different canvases. The first depicts a time portal with a person stepping out into the future. Then there are two landscapes showing the different scenarios this person could be walking into. A barren wasteland, or a city with rooftop gardens and lots of greenery.

The poem I included with the paintings talks about what future YOU as a viewer would like to walk into if you could step through that portal, and it describes how humanity must change its course of action.

This piece was inspired by the film 2040, which shows what the world could look like if we put our resources and brainpower to work.

Years to Come

If you could step into the future
What would you see?
Vast deserts with no water
Or cities covered in green?

Dead trees and bones littering the ground
With sand and dirt for miles
Or rooftop gardens and vegetation
And no trash growing in piles

The future lays in our hands
What actions will we take?
What we do affects generations
Therefore, it’s time to wake

Wake up and see the changes
The human race could create
If we could work together
Before it is too late.
