Earth Day Art Lesson

I chose a final project that is a video tutorial of sorts. This video serves as an art lesson and an object lesson in one. I am an Art Education student and I began this project with the thought: “How would I teach my students about the importance of saving our planet and make it fun?”. I remembered a distressing technique that I had done with some younger students earlier this year and I adapted it to this lesson. The process is very simple: draw, color (hard), cut, crumple, paint, wash then dry. The video however, was the more challenging process.

I hope to impress the need to be honest with the generation we raise about the dire cross roads we face in the preservation of our Earth. I am inspired by an ancient Indian proverb that says: “We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.” It is crucial that we address the needs of our planet, our home and the homes of our children. If we fail to do this immediately, we have truly robbed future generations.
