Little Bird

The anthropocene examines how we, as humans, affect the environment. In theatre, we learn of how the environment impacts us. Our characters and circumstances are deeply impacted by temperature, weather, outside noise, etc. I was struck by the cyclical nature of these two statements; we impact the environment, the environment impacts us. I had the opportunity within the Fusion Theatre Project(a company formed to allow space to explore relevant issues) to devise, write, and direct a 10 minute play, which was informed by the things we have learned in CCA 3070, as they have been weighing on my mind. “Little Bird” explores the lives of two characters in their final intersection, outside in a park, interacting with nature. As their lives fall apart, they are influenced by the chill around them, and further influence the Earth, as they litter and feed birds. As you watch this play I hope the audience considers how things could be different if the characters were positively impacting the earth during this vital moment, if the earth would have responded back with positive influence and circumstances could have changed for the better.
