Artist's Statement

According to the World Economic Forum, “85% of all textiles go to the dump each year” and, “Fashion production makes up 10% of humanity's carbon emissions”. This makes the fashion industry one of the most polluting industries on the planet. For my final project I decided to take clothing that I have had in my closet that would have gone straight to the dump and transform it into something I would actually wear. I took a skirt that my mom bought for me and had been sitting in the back of my closet for ages and cut off the bottom and used that extra fabric to make a front piece and a tie that fashioned as a top.
