Climate Cuisine

I have been vegan for over three years and an environmentalist the majority of my life. When I was a kid and picked up a graphic novel about Jane Goodall, I immediately knew that there was more I could do for the world. This cookbook was a little bit of that part of me. I have always loved cooking because I think food connects people, and since becoming vegan, I’ve strived to make sure my recipes are inclusive. I created this cookbook as a way to show that what connects many of us is food. It’s at every event and often at the heart of any excuse to see someone. Making sure that food is sustainable and can continue to renew our planet is a keystone in helping to heal the climate crisis. I have spent a few months now looking through recipes, talking to people in my circle from around the world, and adapting traditional foods to be vegan. It’s taken a significant amount of time, at minimum 30-40 hours of research, designing, planning, testing, and compiling, just for a handful of recipes but I’d say it was worth it. My hope is that through reading this cookbook, people can see that veganism is something we can achieve globally and we can continue to bring people together through food. In our conversations about climate change, it can always help to be enjoying a meal to put us at ease, and bring us together as what we are at our core: humans.
