Artist's Statement

With this project I wanted to portray a sense of final hope. This piece pictures worn hands holding a flower in a jar with the label, “The last one”. I want to draw the eye of the viewer to the flower with the placement and the color scheme. The flower sits in the middle of the piece making it the focal point and the blue hue of the flower and jar gives the viewer a sense of sadness.The jar and the flower are also the only color in the piece. I want to invoke the idea that if we don’t act now, we will soon be holding the last flower in our hands. This piece was done with ink, watercolor and colored pencil.
