Anthro-Poetry: Three Voices of Nature
For my final project I produced a collection of watercolor paintings and poetry to represent the voices of the ocean, the atmosphere, and the earth. I’ve always viewed nature as a feminine presence, and I carried this view over to my project by introducing each of the threevoices using she/her pronouns. The ocean speaks because she is most visibly suffering from human ignorance, and still being ignored; the atmosphere waits because pollution is something humans can perceive but cannot always see, making it hard to visualize the true dangers of such; the earth listens because she is eager to understand why damage keeps happening to her, despite all of the good she’s doing for humans, plants, and animals. I enjoyed translating my perceptions of nature using artistic expression and I hope my message rings true to you, too.
