Artist's Statement

For my final project, my goal was to create a video that showcases the beauty of Earth’s versatile surface. My main takeaway from our Anthropocene class this past semester has been that serious changes are necessary. We need to lower our greenhouse gas emissions, our consumeristic societies, our over industrialization, and our overall intrusive practices by which we take advantage of earth’s limited resources. This video is a depiction of what we are sacrificing every day that we continue to neglect the necessary changes needed to preserve what is left of Earth’s natural beauty. I tried to incorporate differing landscapes, geographic locations, and seasons to add to the versatility of what is being conveyed. However, I did put some emphasis on the mountainous regions of earth because of their importance to me specifically. I’ve lived in Utah my whole life, and the mountains feel like home. Every person has regions of the earth that impact them specifically, and I hope that the inclusion of some diversity within my video can speak to that. I am no videographer by any means, but for myself personally, I found this to be the best way of showcasing the natural draw to earth’s landscapes and our overwhelming need to preserve it. You don’t know what you have until it’s gone.
