Artist's Statement
Art has always been my rock; it is my way to express my emotions and talk about the things that I am passionate about. During this class one thing that stuck out to me that gave me a little bit of a shock hearing, was that most animals are going extinct because of human activity destroying their homes and their habitats. Human activities such as clearing out forests to make room for infrastructure, for farmland, and the over exploitation of fishing and hunting. I chose to paint a hazy, dark image of trees slowly disappearing into nothing to symbolize that nature is slowly going away if something does not change and soon. I also chose to paint this on a big canvas to make a bold, big statement about how important this issue is and I painted the drips to represent how sad and disheartening this information can be for some people. Humans have managed to destroy more than half of the world's forests and without forests there will be catastrophic effects for humans and climate change will continue to worsen.
