My Night With Mother Earth

As a person who loves to write, I have always appreciated the ability words have to invoke emotion. I really wanted to capture some of the emotions I felt while taking in information throughout this semester in the form of encouraging others. It was said many times in this class that while our current situation looks bleak, we have a lot of reason to hope. I think one of those reasons to hope is because our current generation is arguably more responsive to this crisis than generations before. When I started to ponder that, I also considered how our generation would better impact future generations to be the change our world so desperately needs in this aspect. Along with this, I also considered how future generations would also be affected much more negatively by the anthropocene than ages past if we continue on our current course. These thoughts inspired me to write this children’s book encouraging our youngest generations to consider what they love about the world, and consider how they can join the cause of respecting our great planet. I am confident that the best ways to spark change involves offering education, support, and understanding to those we seek to influence, and this book was my way of encouraging that in our world.

wind. On a clear, starry night, as I lay in my bed, the wind blew in a whisper and I could hear what it said.
"Come, listen my child to a song I sing for you." Said the voice ever so softly without any other clue.
flower hair. When I opened the bedroom window the whisper became a loud cry, and in the sky before me I saw the mother of earth and sky.
rain. Her beauty was breathtaking but there was sadness in her eyes, and when I asked, "What is the matter?" her response was a surprise.
earth. I love being your home, the place where all creatures live, but sadly, my sweet child, there's only so much I can give.
buildings. The gifts I have are limited never meant for overuse. People say these gifts will never run out, but that is just a big excuse.
world. So, my child, I ask you this night, "what can you do to make the world better?" and if you ever get discouraged, sing this song to help you remember...
music. I can be the change the world needs to see I can make a difference fro you. and for me. because the the work that I do to make our home a better place matters not just for me but the entire human race!
tornado. Then suddenly her voice fell back into a whisper, as the wind swept her away like a softspoken twister.
light bulb. As I stared into the sky I knew what I must do, to protect mother earth and ensure her gifts last for me and you.
people. I planted trees with friends and ate a more balanced meal, I made an effort to use less and spoke to others about helping the world heal.
hug. I treated the earth more kindly and was grateful for her gifts knowing this was the beginning of my journey towards more earthly bliss.
carry. And although the road is long, and there is plenty of work to do. The song mother nature sings is always true for me and you.
hold. So, I ask, what can you do today to make the world a better place? For you have an important part to play and your help could never be replaced!
